1. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing an E-bomb which will emit electromagnetic shock waves that destroy electronic circuits and communication networks of enemy forces.

2. Today is National Sports Day 29 August. 2013. 

3. Defending champion Andy Murray put on a US Open late Wednesday night special, taking out his frustrations with the chaos-causing rain and event schedulers but two-time winner Venus Williams slipped to defeat.

4. Cautioning against any hasty action against Syria by the US and allies over the alleged use of chemical weapons, China has called for restraint saying that the world community should wait for the results of the UN inspection team.

5. The government has set up a 7-member Tax Administration Reform Commission (TARC) which will be headed by Parthasarathi Shome. The TARC will revisit tax laws and suggest measures for putting in place a stable and non-adversarial tax administration.

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has joined hands with Franchise India to provide financial support to emerging and established franchisors in India.The tie-up is expected to enable SIDBI create a sustainable and robust financing model for the franchise industry, N.K.Maini, Deputy Managing Director, SIDBI, said.

7. Human Resources Development Minister M M Pallam Raju today launched the Right to Education, RTE, anthem to make education for children interesting and friendly.

8. Yasin Bhatkal, the Indian Mujahideen mastermind and a key suspect in several terror blasts since 2008, has been arrested in a joint operation between the central intelligence agencies and Bihar police.

9. Brigalia Bam, former head of South Africa’s election body, received the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi International Award for Peace and Reconciliation recognizing her commitment to democracy.

10. Famous Pakistani brave girl and activist Malala Yusafzai who was shot in head by Taliban for campaigning for girls’ right to education, has won the prestigious International Children’s Peace Prize 2013.
