1. Indian stock market moved out of the trillion-dollar league on Friday as equities crashed, pulling down the total valuation of all listed companies to $985 billion on fresh concerns about the US stimulus withdrawal, and the rupee plunging to a historic record low of 62. Sensex, by 769.41 points to 18,598.18 - its biggest fall in 4 years. The rupee also touched an all-time low of 62.03 against the US dollar.

2. Ahead of India's Independence Day celebrations this week, Google announced to launch "Google Impact Challenge in India,"inviting Indian nonprofits to tell how they would use technology to improve people's lives.

3. In one of the worst disasters to have struck the Indian Navy, a series of explosions rocked its submarine INS Sindhurakshak at the dockyard in Mumbai around midnight, sinking it partially in the shallow sea, in which 18 personnel including three officers are feared killed.

4. Oscar Academy is ready to screen Satyajit Ray's Apu trilogy next month. To celebrate the restoration of 19 Satyajit Ray films, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen new prints of the filmmaker's renowned 'Apu Trilogy' next month in the US.

5. World condemns Egypt military's crackdown on Morsi supporters as death toll touches 638.

6. The government on Tuesday said that Reserve Bank will examine financials of 34,754 non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to ascertain their eligibility.

7. Rising for the second consecutive month, inflation shot up to 5.79 percent in July, driven largely by double digit rise in prices of food articles, mainly vegetables, including onion.

10. According to the CNN-IBN survey, Mohammad Rafi wins Greatest Voice of Hindi Cinema poll. Rafi sang close to 5000 songs for Hindi films and won as many as six Filmfare awards. He was also honoured with the Padma Shri in 1967.

11. In Punjab, fearing trouble from some anti-social elements, Stri Shakti, an NGO providing mid-day meal in six districts has decided to wind up their operations.

12. The Minority Development Department of Assam government has achieved grand success in implementing the several development schemes among the poor, rural minority people in Morigaon district of central Assam.

13. The first unit of the 1,000-MW Tuticorin thermal power project (2x500 MW), now under construction, is likely to be commissioned in December 2013 and the second unit by March 2014. The project is being implemented through a joint venture company, NTPL (NLC- Tamil Nadu Power Ltd,), according to NLC Chairman-cum-Managing Director B. Surender Mohan.

14. Jwala Gutta-led Krrish Delhi Smashers will lock horns with Ashwini Ponnappa's Pune Pistonsin the tournament opener of the inaugural Indian Badminton League (IBL) which kicks off in New Delhi on Wednesday.

15. India's Vikas Gowda settled for a seventh-place finish with a moderate throw in the 14th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Moscow on Tuesday.

20. The Russian shipyard which upgraded INS Sindhurakshak, on Wednesday said it had installed advanced weaponry, both Indian and foreign systems, to enhance the submarine's "combat capability and safe operation".
