Did you know : The Bermuda Triangle

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is an undefined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean where the triangle's three vertices are in Miami, Florida peninsula; in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and in the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. And all these happen when apparently there are no human errors, equipment failures or even natural disasters. Strangely, the ships and aircraft just vanish when everything seems to be okay.
So, how it got it's name? At the time of coining the term, the first name that came up was "Miami Triangle". But Florida objected saying that they would lose visitors to Miami with such name as people would fear to come there. So the next name taken up was "Puerto Rico Triangle" and they too raised objections. Then it was the turn for the 21 square mile tiny island Bermuda which forms the third corner of the triangle. And no one seems to have bothered. Bermuda was then also known as the "Isle of the Devils" which fitted to the triangle concept quite well and therefore the final name "Bermuda Triangle" was coined.
Here are some of the list of planes and ships that disappeared while crossing the triangle area: Flight 19; PBM Martin Mariner; Tudor Star Tiger; Mary Celeste - The Ghost Ship; Ellen Austin; USS Scorpion; etc.
Popular theories behind the Triangle include time portals, underwater alien bases, magnetic anomalies, pirates, deliberate sinkings, hurricanes, gas deposits, rough weather, huge waves and human error. While, there are many natural explanations too, like: Compass variations, Gulf Stream, Electronic Fog, Violent weather, Methane hydrates, etc.
The triangle does not exist according to the US Navy and the name is not recognized by the US Board on Geographic Names. While its reputation may scare some people, the Bermuda Triangle is actually part of a regularly sailed shipping lane with cruise ships and other boats also frequently sailing through the area. These are some of the facts about Bermuda Triangle that try to solve or explain the mysteries behind it. There are also many stories and myths about the triangle created through sheer imagination of writers who have used them rampantly to draw publicity to their books.

This, however, is on the scale of an entire solar system and is likely made out of more compounds than just water. Because particles are held in place by the ice and are less likely to bounce away from each other, planetary formation may be sped up.

Top 5 Countries with world’s fastest internet

1. Hong kong has the worlds fastest internet speed. It has blazing fast internet, an average peak speed of 63.6 Mbp megabits per seconds. At this speed you can download HD movie in about 2 minutes.

2 Japan

Speed: 50 Mbp
The home of Nintendo and Sony had the second fastest internet speed, thanks to the high-speed fibre optics that run through many parts of the island nation. Japan’s average peak broadband speed reached an impressive 50 Mbps, which was more than 170% faster than the global average

3 . Romania

Speed: 47.9 Mbp

When last checked in on Romania, it was ranked No. 5 and was the only country to see its average fall from the previous quarter. The country is now back on track, and has elevated itself with an average peak speed of 47.9 Mbps. That’s 160% faster than the global average. Romania’s average was 9% higher than the previous quarter

4. South Korea

Speed: 44.8 Mbp

Serious PC gamers who want to dominate in StarCraftneed fast, low latency internet connections. They’ll find that in South Korea, home to consumerelectronics giants Samsung and LG. The country’s average peak hit 44.8 Mbps, about 143% faster than the global average. It was the only region to lose speed compared with a year ago,

Did you Know: Cosmic Rays, They’re Going Right Through You

Cosmic rays are high energy charged particles (some with energies as high as 100 - 1000 TeV) that are constantly blasting into the Earth’s atmosphere. About 90% of Earth-bound cosmic rays are protons (Hydrogen nuclei), 9% are Alpha particles (essentially, Helium nuclei), with the remaining 1% being light elements and electrons.

So, where do cosmic rays come from? Well, there are three main types of cosmic rays:

The first is Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCR). These are particles that are thought to originate outside of the solar system. The second is Anomalous Cosmic Rays. These rays are particles coming from the boundary of the Heliosphere; the "Heliosphere" is the "bubble" of charged particles around the Sun. The third is Solar Energetic Particles. These last kind of particles are those that are ejected during solar flares and other energetic solar events.

While we still don't know exactly where most Cosmic Rays originate from, it's thought that Supernovae not only produce these particles, but their strong magnetic fields serve as an accelerator, launching the rays across space.

Now, you may be asking, "what happens when they (cosmic rays) hit Earth?"

Firstly, there's really nothing to be afraid of when cosmic rays hit Earth. As a charged particle closes in on the planet it encounters the Earth's magnetic field. Sometime, this magnetic field will deflect it away. If the particle manages to make it to the atmosphere, then it will very likely interact with atoms of Nitrogen or Oxygen. This interaction creates a "shower" of particles that fall down to earth (or further interact with other particles). Long story short, nothing that reaches the Earth’s surface is even close to the energies at which the rays started. In fact, it is this interaction that causes Earth's beautiful auroras. Charged particles from the Sun that are interacting with particles in the atmosphere are responsible for these events.

But outside of Earth's protective bubble, it is an entirely different story. Astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission reported seeing flashes of light when they closed their eyes, this turned out to be cosmic rays colliding with the vitreous fluid in their eyes! With no particles to mitigate the high energy of the Cosmic Rays, it's hypothesized that a trip to other planets would require extensive shielding from these rays.

At certain energies, there can be up to 10,000 cosmic rays (or their ionized particles) per square meter falling to the ground (the lower the energy the more common the particle).

How the gun on the original Duck Hunt game worked ?

If you’ve ever played Duck Hunt or any of the other NES games that used the NES Zapper gun, you probably at one point or another wondered how the game actually knows where on the TV you are aiming the gun when you pulled the trigger. It turns out, the method for accomplishing this is incredibly simple, as is the gun itself.

This gun primarily just consists of a button (the trigger) and a photodiode (light sensor). When you pull the trigger, this causes the game to make the TV screen go completely black for one frame. At this point, the game uses the light sensor to sample the black color it’s reading from your TV to give it a reference point; this is essential given that the ambient light in a particular room and other things of this nature can vary greatly. In the next frame, the game causes the target area to turn white, with the rest remaining black. If the game detects a shift from black to white from the gun’s photodiode in that split second, it knows you were aiming correctly at the target and so doesn’t specifically need to know anything about where on the screen the target is.

For games with multiple targets at any given time, the same type of method is used except multiple target frames are shown. So the game will flash the black reference screen; then will flash one of the targets, leaving the rest of the screen black; then flashes the next target, again leaving the rest of the screen black; and so on. The game knows which target is hit, if any, by which frame is currently being shown when a light shift is detected.
