For India, the first session on Day 5 was very crucial. The lack of experience in the visitors' side and a few bad shots gave South Africa an upper hand early in the day. Soon, India were on the receiving end and struggling to save the match. Eventually, the second best Test team posted a paltry target of 58 for the world's best to win the match and seal the series.
King Kallis
"Jacques Kallis, the only player to score 10,000 runs and take 200 wickets in Test cricket." His team-mates wore T-shirts with this text, specially printed for the occasion and carried King Kallis out of the ground on their shoulders. The South African legend brought a fairytale ending to his illustrious career and overshadowed two other champions of the game - Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting - by scoring a ton in his final Test against India at Durban. He scored 115, eventually becoming Ravindra Jadeja's fifth victim in the innings but his efforts helped him become the third-highest Test scorer (13,289 runs) - finishing one run ahead of Rahul Dravid. In his farewell speech that lasted barely five minutes, Kallis said that he will miss the friendships, winning times and losing times the most. It was anything but the elaborate farewell that Sachin Tendulkar got at Wankhede.
End of Durban jinx
South Africa beat India by 10 wickets and sealed the two-match series comprehensively. The win that got the Proteas two ranking points, is their first Test win in Durban since 2008. A match that was evenly poised, changed its course in one session and enabled South Africa to send-off Kallis in style. The Indian team, that has never won a Test series in the Rainbow Nation will have to wait longer.
