1. The Organisation for the
Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
(OPCW) - an international
organisation working since 1997 to
convince countries to give up
chemical weapons besides checking
and confirming the destruction of
existing chemical weapons has won
the Nobel peace prize 2013.
2. International Day of the Girl Child
observed on 11 October 2013 across
the world to recognise the girls’
rights and the unique challenges
girls face around the world.
3. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is
set to host the farewell Test for
Sachin Tendulkar after the legendary
batsman expressed a wish to play his
landmark 200th match against the
West Indies next month in front of
his home crowd.
4. India's handicraft exports are
expected to meet the 4-billion US
dollar target in 2013-14 on the back
of growing demand in markets like
the US, China, Russia and Latin
America.
5. After recording modest growth in
the previous month, industrial output
again slowed down sharply to 0.6 per
cent in August mainly on account of a
contraction in manufacturing and
mining. Factory output, which showed
some signs of recovery after recording
a growth of 2.8 per cent in July,
remained almost flat year

Ocean Information Services ( Incois),
Hyderabad, an autonomous body
under the ministry of earth sciences,
government of India has issued a
high wind-wave alert for Orissa,
Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil
Nadu, Andaman, and Nicobar.
10. Nazi war criminal Erich Priebke
has died at the age of 100 in Italy.
Priebke was jailed for life in 1998 for
his role in the WWII massacre of 335
Italians at the Ardeatine Caves.
