1. Michael Levitt, a British and US citizen of Stanford University, US-Austrian Martin Karplus of Strasbourg University and US-Israeli Arieh Warshel of the University of Southern California share The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2013 on 9 October 2013.

2. Brunei Darussalam will host the 22nd ASEAN summit on the 24th and 25th of this month. The ministers of ASEAN economic community were briefed on the preparation for the summit at a dinner at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

3. Britain is to host next year's Nato (North Atlantic Treaty Org.) summit for the first time since the end of the cold war in 1990.

4. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lowered the growth projection for India to 3.8 per cent in 2013-14. This is sharply lower than the 5.6 per cent growth projection it had made in July.

5. The Finance Ministry expects the economic growth in the current fiscal to improve to 5.5 per cent from 5 per cent last year on back of likely pick up in agricultural output on account of good monsoon rains.

6. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today restricted foreign institutional investors (FIIs) to purchase shares in Great Eastern Shipping Company and Kajaria Ceramics as the foreign equity shareholding have reached the trigger limit of 24 per cent.

7. COP19 meeting at Warsaw to lay down climate deal basics. Poland’s Environment Minister says his challenge at next month’s climate conference will be to lay foundations for a new global emission cuts deal.

8. A cyclonic storm on Wednesday hit the Andaman and Nicobar islands and is expected to reach the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha over the next 48-72 hours, the MET department said.

9. Queen's Baton Relay for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is all set to get under way in London.

10. World's largest retail chain Walmart Stores Inc and Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Group have called off their six-year old alliance in India and will own and operate separate businesses in the country.
