1. Former South Africa president Nelson Mandela was honoured with the Humanitarian Achievement Award this year.

2. The Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI), today imposed a life ban on former IPL Comissioner Lalit Modi from any of its activities.

3. The government today announced setting up of the Seventh Central Pay Commission. A Finance Ministry statement said the Prime Minister approved the constitution of the commission whose recommendations are to be implemented from 1st January, 2016.

4. The RBI on Wednesday banned zero per cent interest rate scheme for purchase of consumer goods; a move intended to protect customers, which may however dampen the festive spirit.
The central bank has also said that no additional charges can be levied on payment through debit cards.

5. Egypt will open the Rafah crossing with Gaza for three days on Saturday for students and humanitarian cases.

6. UN chemical weapons inspectors are on their way to Syria to continue their probe into allegations of use of chemical weapons there.

7. Ruchira Kamboj, currently the Chief of Protocol, has been appointed as the next Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, Paris, with the rank of Ambassador.

8. ONGC is to explore shale gas in the Cambay Basin. It will spend nearly Rs 150-Rs 200 crore to drill the first set of wells starting next month, N. K. Verma, Director (Exploration) of India’s largest explorer, said on Wednesday.

9. UN inspectors returned to Syria today to pursue a probe into alleged poison gas attacks, as Russia and the West wrangled over how to eliminate President Bashar al-Assad''s banned chemical weapons.

10. Death toll in devastating earthquake that struck havoc in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province rose to 217 today, amid fears that it is likely to go up.
